The Evolution of a Franchise: The Legend of Zelda (GDC 2004)
From the introduction of the original The Legend of Zelda in 1986 to the graphic design of 2002's cel-shaded The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, The Legend of Zelda series has undergone many significant changes over the years. Some modifications were accelerated by technological improvements and others stemmed from the desire to adjust theme or graphic representation. Eiji adresses the challenges faced by Nintendo's development team while creating The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, and The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and how decisions were made to innovate, while maintaining the fun and integrity of this storied franchise.
